On November 18, 2023, **West Pipeline Company of the Pipe Network Group successfully carried out in the pipeline fracture control test facility located in Hami the first combustion and explosion test in China on a hydrogen transport pipeline made of full-size fiberglass-reinforced polymer composite pipes (DN200, PN2.5MPa), providing technical support for the construction and safe operation of non-metallic hydrogen transport pipelines in China in the future. This experiment collected data on the pressure inside the pipeline, the deformation of the pipeline itself, as well as the spatial and temporal distributions of pressure and temperature during the combustion caused by hydrogen leakage. It also allowed for the identification of the characteristics of the flame shape resulting from the explosion of the hydrogen cloud. Subsequently, a comprehensive analysis of the experimental data will be conducted to compare the extent of combustion resulting from hydrogen pipeline leaks with the simulation results, thereby determining more accurately the scope of impact of combustion in non-metallic hydrogen transport pipelines. This will provide more comprehensive data support for the comprehensive analysis of pipeline operation safety management. It is reported that this test is the **second hydrogen transportation test carried out by the Western Pipeline Company of the pipeline network. On June 26 of this year, the company successfully conducted China’s first intermediate-stage application test for a high-pressure hydrogen transmission pipeline using multiple types of materials. Pipeline hydrogen transport is an important method for the large-scale, long-distance, and low-cost transportation of hydrogen. **In strict accordance with the requirements of the **Medium- and Long-Term Plan for the Development of the Hydrogen Energy Industry (2021–2035)**, the Western Pipeline Company of the pipeline network actively and prudently implements its \"dual carbon\" action plan, accelerating research and development in cutting-edge technologies for the pipeline storage and transportation of various media such as hydrogen, ammonia, alcohol-based hydrogen carriers, and carbon dioxide. At the same time, by leveraging Xinjiang’s resource advantages, it promotes the integrated development of traditional oil and gas transportation services with those related to the storage and transportation of new energy sources. It actively explores new opportunities in this field, taking practical actions to help Xinjiang embark on a path of high-quality development.
Combustion and explosion test of polypropylene composite pipe (DN200, PN2.5MPa) for hydrogen transport
Pipes with a fiberglass lining and polypropylene core need to be welded, and the design of their supports is also quite complex. It’s not clear whether burying it is feasible; perhaps an overhead installation would be better. Seeking experts
