This is the first such standard of its kind in China for hydrogen storage and transportation pipelines. It is understood that the **Standards for Steel Tubes Used in Hydrogen Storage and Transportation Pipelines** were developed in order to implement relevant policies such as the Medium- and Long-Term Plan for the Development of the Hydrogen Energy Industry (2021–2035), the **Standardization Development Outline**, and the Plan for Building a **Standard System to Promote High-Quality Development during the 14th Five-Year Plan Period**. These standards are of great significance for accelerating the large-scale application of hydrogen energy in China and fostering the high-quality development of this industry. Starting in 2020, the Research Institute of CNOOC Bohai Equipment Company began to conduct proactive research on the factors that hinder the development of hydrogen pipelines and the hydrogen energy sector in China. It carried out targeted studies on the mechanisms of damage caused by the transport of pure hydrogen or hydrogen blends, the development of pipeline materials suitable for hydrogen transport, and the key manufacturing techniques for such materials, with the aim of establishing China’s first set of standards for hydrogen storage and transportation pipelines. Over the past few years, leveraging their strengths in research and development of transmission equipment technologies as well as their existing expertise in hydrogen transport pipelines, they have worked together with hydrogen energy users, steel manufacturers, universities, research institutions, and pipeline design firms to address relevant challenges. In February 2023, they submitted an application to establish a standard for **steel pipes used in hydrogen storage and transportation pipelines**. Next, the Research Institute of CNOOC Bohai Equipment Company will assemble a team of experts to carry out the standard development in a planned and high-quality manner, in accordance with the overall requirements of the relevant departments; this will enable the transformation of technical achievements into tangible forms and promote technological progress across the entire industry.
