What troubles many design firms and companies these days is whether there is a specific order for the arrangement of valves such as base valves, emergency shut-off valves, and metal hoses (large tie rods) in the inlet and outlet pipelines at the base of storage tanks Today, I will discuss the valve layout issue for tank root piping.
In the piping arrangement at the base of a storage tank, it is usually done in the following order: 1. Base valve: Starting from the outlet of the storage tank, a base valve should be installed first. This valve is primarily used to control the flow of fluid in and out of the storage tank, ensuring that it can be quickly closed or opened when necessary. 2. Metal hose (large tie rod): A metal hose is usually connected behind the tank base valve. The function of a flexible metal hose is to provide a flexible connection for pipes, reducing the mechanical stress on them caused by changes in temperature and pressure, while also facilitating the installation and maintenance of the piping system. 3. Emergency shut-off valve: An emergency shut-off valve should be installed after the flexible metal hose. This type of valve is used to quickly shut off fluids in emergency situations, preventing possible leaks or other hazards. Such an arrangement ensures more efficient and safe control of the liquid in the storage tank under normal and emergency conditions. During design, ease of operation and convenience for maintenance must also be taken into account. .
Tank root valve, emergency shut-off, metal hose, with drain provided in the middle. The flexible metal hose itself is a potential point of leakage; if it is placed between the bottom valve and the isolation valve, it has to withstand hydraulic pressure when the bottom valve is open. Coupled with the settlement of the storage tank, the risk of rupture and leakage increases over time.
In accordance with the Guidelines for the Campaign to Rectify Hazards in Sinopec’s tank farms, Group Work Order Anfeng [2016] No. 39, 6.13 Cut-off valves: A main cut-off valve should be installed at the location where the inlet and outlet pipes for the materials stored in the tank are connected to the tank body.
Cylinder root valve, cut-off valve, metal hose. There is a support (spring support) under the shut-off valve; in this case, is the flexible metal hose still useful?
