I have been working in atmospheric and vacuum distillation for over a decade, and I’ve encountered new problems recently. In short, feel free to use jade to hit me........................ Recently, during the loading of residue oil and sampling from tank tops at our company, the hydrogen sulfide detectors carried by the operators went off, indicating hydrogen sulfide levels ranging from 30 to 60 ppm. A gas sample from inside the tank was taken at the top of the tank, and the hydrogen sulfide concentration was as high as 800 ppm. This tank has always been used as a residue tank; no other materials have been stored in it. The breathing valve is working properly, but the temperature of the residue inside the tank is quite high, around 150 degrees. The sulfur content of the residue is about 1% (the crude oil is low-sulfur crude oil)...... I really don’t understand this; I’ve never encountered such a problem before. Hydrogen sulfide enters the heat exchanger through internal leakage, or is generated by its own decomposition.
Only crude oil exchanges heat with residue oil, so this possibility is essentially ruled out. Based on the recent operations, it can be determined that it is likely resulting from residue cracking; the addition of a small amount of stripping steam at the bottom of the tower has improved the situation
