The plant’s waste heat boiler produces steam at 1.0 MPA; this steam is heated in a superheater before being fed into the main steam network. Recently, a loud noise has been heard coming from the steam superheater – I’m not sure what’s causing it Please discuss what causes this. A steam superheater uses flue gas to heat steam. Bonus points
Has the amount of steam produced increased?
1. Is there a leak inside the superheater tube? 2. Either too low or too high flue gas flow rates can cause resonance in the tube fins of the overheating element. 3. Are there any components that have fallen and are hanging on the internal pipes?
Can internal leakage in the superheater cause a harsh noise?
With high-speed flow, the superheater acts like a resonant chamber, causing the sound to be amplified!
All the situations I mentioned to you could happen!
If noise can be heard, it means the leakage is severe. Do you have flue gas desulfurization? If not, the leakage can be seen from the chimney
If it is a sharp, harsh sound, one should generally consider whether it is due to the gas flow rate; if throttling occurs, the sound produced will be harsh
I think there’s a sound; it must be the vibration of some object, and the energy that causes that vibration must be the airflow! Then it could be caused by a change in the flow rate of flue gas entering the pipeline ; If not, then let’s check whether there is anything loose inside the heat exchange pipes, any foreign objects mixed in or leaks – things like the fins mentioned earlier, pipe scaling, or connections between pipes, among other possibilities.
