Do crude oils and metals exist in the form of elemental metals, or in the form of inorganic and organic salts? Do catalysts get damaged by elemental metals or by metal salts?

Crude metals exist in the form of inorganic salts and organic salts. Inorganic salts include chlorides of ions such as sodium, magnesium, and calcium; most of these inorganic substances can be removed through the electrodesalting process for crude oil. Organic salts in crude oil cannot be removed by electrodialysis; after atmospheric and vacuum distillation, most of the metal organics remain in the residue. During processing, metal adsorbs and deposits on the catalyst, blocking its micropores and altering its structure, thereby deactivating the catalyst.
Does electrodialysis benefit the catalyst in the desalted crude oil? Inorganic salts do not damage the catalyst, but metal-organic compounds cannot be removed in that case
Electrodialysis is certainly helpful for removing salts, because if salts are carried into the secondary reaction unit, inorganic salts can also be converted into organic salts or in ionic form through reactions
