Dear teachers, I have a 11kW three-phase 380V pump. The voltage at the site is 660V, so I need to install a transformer specifically for my pump. I’m not very familiar with electrical matters, and I have a few questions: 1. Is there any problem with installing this transformer directly in my explosion-proof switch cabinet? 2. It doesn’t have to be a traditional transformer; as long as it can provide stable voltage conversion, that’s fine. The smaller the size, the better. 3. Is there a relationship between the choice of transformer and its power rating? If the power of my pump increases in the future, do I need to change the transformer as well? And if so, will the size of the transformer change significantly? I hope experienced teachers can offer some guidance on how to choose the right transformer for me
Ahah, dear sea friend, please confirm your motor model! If so, and the motor is of the 380/660V series, then the motor’s wiring can be modified – changing it to a delta connection will meet the requirements! Adding a step-up transformer on-site is definitely not a reliable solution; replacing the motor will solve the problem – use a star-delta type motor with 380V/660V voltage. Since it is a blast-proof area, installing a power step-up transformer in such control boxes not only poses problems with heat dissipation but also reduces the reliability of operation. It may be necessary to have a blast-proof supplier customize one such transformer (and a blast-proof certification is also required), making implementation less feasible. Replacing it with a domestic 11KW blast-proof motor would cost less than 8,000 yuan, so it is not recommended to use a transformer for voltage stepping up.

Actually, the main issue isn’t the motor itself; the electrical power supplied to my pump’s motor first passes through a control module before reaching the motor. This control module limits the voltage to 380V, with no possibility of changing it. Now I want to add a transformer in the switchgear to transform the voltage before it is supplied to my equipment; It’s possible that, as you said, installing this transformer bare inside my explosion-proof switchgear does present a cooling issue
