On the morning of August 1, the main body of the granulation tower for the 800,000-ton/year urea production unit of the Tarim Phase II fertilizer plant, which is part of the Tarim Phase II green and low-carbon ammonia and urea production project, was successfully completed, marking the transition of this plant from the construction phase to the installation phase. The fertilizer plant is the core facility in the 1.2 million tons per year Phase II ethylene and related green and low-carbon demonstration project at Dushanzi Petrochemical in Tarim, and it includes an 800,000 tons per year urea plant and a 450,000 tons per year synthetic ammonia plant. Among them, the urea granulation tower is the most critical structure; its inner diameter is 24 meters, the height of its main body reaches 116.3 meters, more than 7,000 cubic meters of concrete were poured in its construction, and over 1,600 tons of steel bars were used. Since the project commenced on November 8, 2024, the team overcame various challenges such as winter construction, the need for insulated enclosures for curing large-volume concrete, the requirement to pour concrete in high temperatures, slip form construction, and modifications to forms at heights. After 264 days of hard work, they successfully achieved the goal of completing the structure. During the construction process, the project overcame the technical challenges and mix design issues related to the use of C45 high-strength concrete in a granulation tower for the first time in China ; In terms of safety management, strict controls are exercised to manage the safety risks associated with high-altitude modification work, and additional safety measures are implemented to protect workers when working in hot weather ; In quality management, slipform construction follows the principles of \"prevention in advance, management during implementation, and correction and improvement after completion.\" It strictly adheres to the practical testing procedures of \"insert first, observe second, and feel third\" to ensure that key quality control aspects such as the verticality of the tower, the lifting process using slipform construction, and concrete pouring meet the required standards. In addition, the fertilizer production unit at the old plant began a comprehensive shutdown and maintenance process on the afternoon of July 30; it will be handed over to the project team in phases, by area, and in batches, so that it can be completely dismantled in preparation for relocation.
