How often does the amine solution used for removing carbon dioxide with an alcoholamine solution need to be replaced? Usually only top-ups are done; this solution has been in use for four years now. Recently, white crystalline substances were found at the needle valve of the pressure sampling point at the top of the regeneration tower. The factory is unable to analyze these substances, which results in inaccurate readings of the pressure in the regeneration tower. Additionally, the amine solution has started to turn yellow, whereas it was originally white and transparent. The raw natural gas used has a simple composition, with virtually no heavy hydrocarbons or sulfides; after carbon removal and water removal, it goes directly into the cold box.
It might be that the amine solution has changed color due to oxidation, or an adsorption test using white clay could be conducted.
