Our company uses spray drying technology for wastewater treatment. The large clumps of salt that are produced start to emit smoke after being stored for 1-2 months, and the inside of these salts turns gray; there is no open flame. What could be the reason for this? Is it caused by high temperatures or a high content of organic matter? Or is there some other reason? Thank you
First, you need to tell everyone what kind of salt you are referring to (its chemical composition) Also, it is necessary to confirm whether the smoke you mentioned is of the type produced by combustion (smoke), or whether it is vapor or steam resulting from moisture or volatile substances. Additionally, please provide information on the storage temperature, surrounding environment, and exposure to sunlight as well. Just talking about general phenomena, and since we’re not in front of your organization, how can anyone make a judgment?
The main salts are sodium chloride and sodium sulfate; it is stored outdoors, so exposure to sunlight is not an issue. Products that were stored there for 1-2 years previously showed no problems, but this situation only arose after a new spray drying system was installed. It is preliminarily determined that the high content of organic substances may lead to reactions between them; however, it is not yet clear what exactly these reactions are, mainly because the various components in the wastewater are too complex. The measures taken so far are to wait for a day or two, touch the outside of the packaging bag to check if it’s still warm; if it’s not warm, then there’s no problem.
