The Shanghai Consumer Protection Commission released a report on the \"milk tea comparison tests,\" revealing various \"secrets\" behind popular online milk teas. The milk tea shops that were evaluated included those you might be familiar with such as Heytea, Huangcha, Gongcha, Yiyidian COCO, Happy Lemon, and others. A total of 51 milk tea samples were purchased from these 27 shops, covering the mainstream options available on the market. The best-selling products of this ready-made milk tea brand – the truth behind them is truly surprising! It generally contains caffeine, yet there’s never any warning! The investigation found that the average caffeine content in the 51 milk tea samples was as high as 270 mg/L. Among them, 4 samples had a caffeine content of over 300 mg per cup, with the highest level reaching 428 mg per cup! You should know that a medium-sized cup of American coffee contains 108 mg of caffeine, while a can of Red Bull contains 50 mg of caffeine. This means that drinking a cup of milk tea is equivalent to drinking a cup of coffee or even several cans of Red Bull.
Milk tea is originally a daily beverage of nomadic peoples such as the Mongols and Tibetans; it is made from cow’s, sheep’s, and horse’s milk, along with specially prepared brick tea, giving it high energy content and a strong flavor. And what’s sold in the market as milk tea? It’s actually a junk drink created by Taiwanese to deceive people on the mainland, made using colorants and other additives. Some people are still drinking with great relish; I really don’t know what’s on their minds.
