Your process is desulfurization of alcohols, but the total sulfur level refers to all sulfides including thiol compounds; that is, it also includes sulfur compounds such as hydrogen sulfide, sulfides, disulfides, carbonyl sulfide, thiophene, and sulfones. If your process only works on thiol groups, then other sulfides cannot be completely removed, so the total sulfur level will not be reduced to very low levels. Conduct a sulfide form analysis on your desulfurization products to examine the removal efficiency of different sulfides.
