Chlorinated paraffin-70 is the most cost-effective additive flame retardant. It is produced using processes such as the bulk method, solvent method, and aqueous method; currently, the bulk method and the aqueous phase method are commonly used. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages – the former features a simple process, low equipment requirements, easy operation, and better product performance; The latter process is complex, requires high-grade equipment and involves intricate operations; however, it yields products with excellent performance and few by-products. It finds wider applications in various fields where flame retardancy is needed, such as plastics, rubbers, coatings, and adhesives.
The use of chlorinated paraffin-70 in rubber involves a relatively mature processing technique; due to the mild nature of this processing, there is no issue of degradation, nor is it necessary to add additional stabilizing agents. However, products made from chlorinated paraffin-70 using different processing methods result in varying mechanical properties for the rubber. The chlorinated paraffin-70 product produced by the aqueous phase method is pure and free of impurities; it has the least adverse effects on rubber vulcanization, ensures thorough vulcanization, and results in a good bonding strength between the rubber and other materials, making it a viable option.
