On November 25, Invista’s largest investment project to date – the ADN production facility for nylon chemicals – was completed in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park. The total investment in Invista’s adiponitrile production facility exceeds 7 billion yuan (over 1 billion dollars), with an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of adiponitrile; this enables the production of 800,000 tons of nylon 66 per year. Adiponitrile is a key raw material for nylon 66. Invista’s adiponitrile production facility utilizes proprietary technology for producing adiponitrile via the butadiene process; once operational, it will help alleviate the previous reliance on imported adiponitrile, thereby ensuring a stable local supply to support the production of nylon 66. Meanwhile, by integrating Nvidia’s R&D center in the Asia-Pacific region with its existing production facilities for adipic acid and nylon 66 polymers, Nvidia will develop comprehensive production and R&D capabilities that cover application development as well as the supply of raw materials and high-performance polymers. It is reported that since 2014, Invista has continued to invest over $2 billion in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park to develop its nylon 66 value chain. This includes production facilities for hexamethylenediamine, as well as facilities for producing nylon 66 polymers. The Invista Asia-Pacific R&D Center, which began operations in September 2022, is also part of this effort. In addition, there are facilities for producing adiponitrile used in nylon production, and a plan to increase the capacity for manufacturing nylon 66 polymers has already been put into effect.
