Why do reciprocating compressors need to undergo hydrostatic testing, while centrifugal compressors do not? Are the parts of a reciprocating compressor that require hydrostatic testing the cylinders and the circulation pipelines? Does anyone have detailed pictures?
The original poster didn’t explain things very clearly. As far as I know, whether it is a centrifugal compressor or a reciprocating compressor, cast iron components that are subjected to gas pressure need to be pressurized with water; the main purpose of this is to check for leaks in the cylinders, as a component with leaks cannot be used. Forged components, on the other hand, do not require such pressurization. Additionally, the circulating cooling water system also needs to be pressurized, with the main purpose being to check for leaks.
The cylinders of reciprocating compressors need to undergo hydrostatic testing. What about those of centrifuges? I’m a beginner; please give me more guidance
A centrifuge is supposed to undergo a leak test before leaving the factory; at least I’ve never seen a case where a hydraulic test is required after it’s installed on site.
Reciprocating compressor cylinders require water cooling and have water channels, hence they need to undergo hydrostatic testing; on the other hand, the casing of centrifugal compressors does not require water for cooling – it is the compressed medium that is cooled by water
