When selecting an electromagnetic flowmeter, the material used inside the meter’s electrodes determines its service life; therefore, it is necessary to pay close attention to these aspects. pH indicates the acidity or alkalinity of wastewater. It is the logarithmic value of the reciprocal of the hydrogen ion concentration in water, with a range of 0 to 14. When the pH value is 7, the water is neutral; values below 7 indicate acidity, with lower values meaning greater acidity. Values above 7 indicate alkalinity, with higher values meaning greater alkalinity. The pH level in wastewater has a certain impact on pipes, water pumps, gate valves, and wastewater treatment structures. The pH value in wastewater treatment plants that mainly handle domestic wastewater is typically between 7.2 and 7.8. Either too high or too low pH levels can indicate the presence of industrial wastewater. Too low values can corrode pipes and pump bodies, and may cause harm. For example, sulfides in wastewater produce H2S gas under acidic conditions. At high concentrations, it can cause headaches, runny nose, suffocation, and even death in those who handle it. To this end, it has been found that reduced pH requires enhanced monitoring, identification of the source of pollution, and implementation of countermeasures. At the same time, the acceptable pH range for biochemical treatment is 6 to 10; values that are too high or too low can affect or impair biological treatment. Therefore, special attention must be paid to these matters when using sewage flow meters.
