Hello, esteemed colleagues: I’ve run into a problem during the on-site installation of a compressor. When leveling the cylinder horizontally, the spirit level indicated that one side was higher. After rotating the level 180 degrees, it showed that the other side was higher instead. An experienced colleague suggested taking the larger value minus the smaller value. Is this approach correct? What’s the underlying principle behind this subtraction method? Thank you
Hello, after rotating the level 180 degrees, one side ends up higher. This indicates that there is an error in the level itself. The method of using the larger value to reduce the smaller value can determine the absolute difference in heights on both sides, but it cannot yield the actual levelness of the cylinder. If accurate measurement of the cylinder’s levelness is required, it is recommended to use more precise measuring tools or recalibrate the level. .
This statement has no practical meaning in solving the problem. If such a deviation occurs, the measuring tool is the problem first and foremost. For reference.
The readings from flipping the level over differ too much; this ruler itself isn’t calibrated. Any measurements must be preceded by calibrating the measuring tool!
