After the hot material gate valve is fully closed, should the handwheel be turned back half a turn to prevent the valve disc and valve channel from freezing and getting stuck, which could result in the valve not being able to open when tried.
As long as it does not affect the sealing performance of the valve, it is worthwhile to do so.
