Baotai Group is conducting research on the localization of Inconel625 wide-width coils for use in energy storage systems in high-temperature molten salt tower-type concentrated solar power plants. December 12, 2025 – Recently, at the 2025 China Solar Thermal Power Conference, organized by the Solar Thermal Industry Technology Innovation Strategy Alliance, the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, the Chinese Society for Renewable Energy, and the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, with special support from the Northwest Electric Power Design Institute of China Power Engineering Consulting Group Co., Ltd., Ding Wuzhou (acting as representative) of Baotai Group served as a speaker and delivered a presentation titled “Research on the Localization of Inconel625 Wide-Width Coils for Energy Storage in High-Temperature Molten Salt Tower-Type Concentrated Solar Power Plants”. The report states that Inconel625 (UNS N06625 / W.Nr. 2.4856), a nickel-based superalloy, possesses excellent high-temperature strength, as well as good oxidation and corrosion resistance, and is widely used in industries such as aerospace, petrochemicals, nuclear energy, and shipbuilding. In recent years, significant progress has been made in the research and production technologies of nickel-based alloys in our country. However, the technology for producing wide-width strips of nickel-based alloys used in key fields such as nuclear power and new energy remains undeveloped, and the materials required depend heavily on imports. With the development of new nuclear-powered submarines in our country and the implementation of solar thermal power generation projects, there is an urgent need for the domestic production of wide-width strips of this material. Based on the process technology, experience, and equipment available for nickel-based alloy wide strips of other grades, Baotai Group has developed the following main production methods and approaches: 1. A process for selecting raw materials suitable for curing, as well as techniques for preparing master alloys ; 2. Optimize the process parameters of the two-step melting method to produce high-quality alloy ingots ; 3. Improve the hot processing technique to ensure hot coil forming ; 4. Independently developed strip cold rolling technology ; 5. Combine with the group’s wide-band strip production line to carry out continuous heat treatment of the finished strips ; 6. Meet all inspection requirements for the project products using fully autonomous testing equipment ; 7. Sample preparation and testing are carried out jointly by the university team and the user. By overcoming technical challenges, Baotai Group’s products now match the quality of imported materials; in addition to complying with ASME SB443 standards, they also meet the following specific requirements: 1. Product specifications: 1.35~2.2*≧1000~1350*Cmm ; 2. The surface condition of the finished strip should be 2D or 2B ; 3. The inclusions grade meets the requirements: fine grade ≤0.5, coarse grade ≤1.0 for categories A\B\C\D ; 4. The longitudinal and transverse grain size shall not be coarser than grade 5 ; 5. Intergranular corrosion according to ASTM G28A method is <0.91 mm/a. 6. Alloy content: O < 30 ppm, N < 100 ppm, H < 5 ppm ; 7. The room-temperature mechanical properties shall meet Rm≥690MPa, Rp0.2≥276MPa, and A50≥40%.
