When initially ordering a belt conveyor, users should first make an approximate estimate based on their production volume and the characteristics of the products to be transported. Parameters such as the conveying speed of the belt, the type of belt, and the type of chain are all related to the properties of the materials being conveyed. For example, the conveying speed determines the transportation volume, and this volume is calculated based on the material density and the stacking thickness; therefore, the material density and volume determine the amount of material that can be transported by the conveying equipment. There is also the issue of the mesh size in belt conveyors: the larger the mesh size, the lower the cost. However, the mesh size is related to the volume of the material as well as the lifespan of the conveyor belt. Therefore, the mesh size should be chosen so as to meet the requirements for material transportation while ensuring a proper lifespan; it cannot be increased or decreased indefinitely in order to achieve an optimal design for the conveyor belt and the best cost-performance ratio. When planning a mesh belt conveyor, there is a definite relationship between the types and parameters of the accompanying components; factors such as the type of mesh belt, chain parameters, and motor power all determine different installation methods depending on the length and width of the conveyor as well as the shape of the materials to be transported. The greater the length and width of the belt conveyor, the larger the diameter of the belt strands and the type of chain used, as well as the higher the motor power required. For 10-meter mesh belt conveyors, the wire diameter is selected to be between 1.0mm and 1.8mm; the chain type is C2050 or C2062, and the motor power ranges from 0.75KW to 1.5KW. These type parameters, as well as the shape and density of the material being conveyed, can also change randomly. In any case, the corresponding type parameters for belt conveyors must be determined through a combination of theoretical analysis and practical experience, in order to avoid situations where the conveyors become unusable or are wasted. The conventional stainless steel mesh belt conveyor type is the TD-WD type; this type uses a herringbone double-twist chain mesh belt as the conveying belt, and is driven by an inverter-controlled speed reducer with a speed range of 0–15 meters per minute. The parameters are: width of 200mm to 1800mm, length of 3 meters to 30 meters, pitch ranging from 12.7mm to 50.8mm, and height of 200mm to 1 meter. Selecting the type and parameters of a belt conveyor is a crucial factor in determining its performance and cost, as the type and parameters of the conveyor are directly related to whether it can be used effectively; different parameters also influence the price of the belt conveyor. For example, mesh parameters – the size of the mesh has a direct impact on costs. There is also the question of whether baffles or edges are needed; since many fine particles require such devices, choosing the wrong ones will inevitably affect the transportation efficiency. Another point is the selection of materials for belt conveyors: for applications such as food transportation, drying, and cleaning, stainless steel materials should be used; for industrial transportation, ordinary carbon steel or 45# steel is sufficient. In some cases, a combination of both types of materials is required – the belt can be made of stainless steel while the shafts and chains are made of carbon steel. Therefore, when selecting the parameters for a belt conveyor type, first one must have a clear idea in mind, and second, it is advisable to communicate as much as possible with the manufacturer to avoid any issues in its use.
