The transfer roller is a cylindrical component, divided into a driving roller and a driven roller. It is widely used in devices such as rotary screen printers, digital printers, and conveyor systems. Drums are used in various transmission and conveying systems such as packaging machinery. Drums are usually made of seamless steel tubes; however, depending on the requirements of the manufacturing process, they may also be constructed from materials such as aluminum alloy 6061T5, 304L/316L stainless steel, 2205 duplex stainless steel, cast steel, or solid forged alloy steel cores. The production of rollers mainly involves processes such as initial turning of the roller body, initial static balance adjustment, press-fit welding of the shaft ends, precision turning, and precise dynamic balance adjustment. If the requirements for dimensional tolerances such as roundness, cylindricity, and straightness are below 0.2 mm, external cylindrical grinders or roller grinders are required for further grinding after turning. If surface hardness is required, an additional heat treatment step is necessary. After drum forming, surface treatment or coating is required for rust and corrosion prevention, wear resistance, and support, such as painting, galvanizing, TEFLON spraying, rubber coating, chrome plating, ceramic spraying, and oxidation. Classified by size, there are large ones such as rollers used in papermaking machinery (with lengths of over 10 meters and diameters of over 1500 mm), and small ones such as idler rollers used on belt conveyors on automated production lines (usually with lengths of less than 1 meter and diameters of around 159 mm). Based on their function, there are rollers that ensure precision in transmission, such as those found in digital laser printers; rollers that serve a pressing and filtering purpose, like the calendering rollers in papermaking machinery; support rollers for which high dimensional accuracy is not required; rollers needed for heat exchange; and rollers that provide heavy-duty pressing and filtering functions, among others – too many to list here.
