A storage tank needs to be fabricated on-site, with a DN7000 size, operating at atmospheric pressure, with a working temperature range of -25° to 35°, a pH level of 7.5, and a chloride ion concentration of 1 g/L. The client requires an epoxy fiberglass-reinforced plastic lining for corrosion protection on carbon steel. Is this epoxy fiberglass-reinforced plastic lining resistant to low temperatures? Epoxy fiberglass-reinforced plastic is prone to low-temperature embrittlement when used in low temperatures, and its use is not recommended.
So what kind of lining is suitable for low temperatures?
Within the temperature range of 25°C to 35°C, epoxy resins cure properly and generally do not present any problems at these temperatures; however, sudden changes in temperature can easily affect the adhesion between the fiberglass-reinforced plastic and the tank walls. Materials that become rigid after curing, such as epoxy resin fiberglass, are not recommended; however, if they are to be used, the ratio of curing agents in the epoxy resin mixture must be strictly controlled, and it is advisable to add a certain amount of toughening resin as well. The surface treatment must ensure an appropriate level of roughness. Also, for the fiberglass-reinforced plastic lining of the storage tank in the DN7000 model, structural considerations must be taken into account; the bottom of the pipes and the top of the tank need to be sturdy, and the steel plates must not exhibit any rebounding when the liquid level changes.
Silicone heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings can meet the requirements, but the problem is that they are a bit expensive.
