Wear failure analysis primarily aims to identify the causes of wear, so that defective components can be replaced in a timely manner and wear-related losses can be reduced; Wear is the phenomenon in which, under the action of friction during the relative movement of objects, wear particles gradually separate from the surfaces, causing continuous damage. Wear failure refers to the situation in which mechanical components are unable to achieve their original designed performance due to wear, that is, they cannot function at the level intended by the design. Wear failure is a gradual process that develops over time, taking anywhere from a few hours to several years. Wear, along with fracture and corrosion, are considered the three main forms of metal failure analysis, and their consequences can be extremely severe.
