Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) refers to the corrosion that occurs in metal pipes or equipment covered by insulation, in the presence of water and corrosive substances. CUI is highly concealed and difficult to detect immediately, which makes it extremely prone to sudden leakage accidents. Generally, the probability of corrosion beneath the insulation layer in equipment or pipelines increases significantly after 5 years of operation, while pipelines that have been in use for 16 to 20 years are most prone to leakage. CUI not only causes product leakage, equipment failure, or shutdowns and increased maintenance costs, but it can even lead to injuries and fatalities. In domestic projects, CUI has not received widespread attention; efforts have been limited to aspects such as insulation design or protective coatings only. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive analysis of it throughout the entire project lifecycle.
