I started learning *ASPEN PLUS a few days ago, and I’m summarizing what I learn for future reference. I. Entry of component ID: There are 3 ways to enter a component ID. The first is the alphabet method; its drawback is that Aspen Plus only supports up to 8 characters, which poses a problem for longer identifiers. The second method is the chemical formula approach; it’s simple and doesn’t require knowing English, but the downside is that it doesn’t work for chemicals of the same element with different structures. The third method is to look up the CAS number, which is the most accurate approach. II. Regarding coal: Coal is considered a non-conventional component; therefore, it is necessary to select the \"non-conventional\" option when choosing the type. When first starting to use this system, the default setting is \"conventional\", which prevents proper data entry later on. For the properties of NC in the method, HCOALGEN is used for enthalpy, and DCOALIGT is used for density; the memory is also simple, as there is always a \"COAL\" element in them.
