I use radfrac to simulate a regenerative tower equipped with a reboiler. The basic data are from references, in which the variations in the lean liquid load and heat load (which should also refer to the reboiler load) at different reboiler temperatures were investigated. I would like to ask how the temperature of this reboiler can be kept constant? Also, the reboiler load seems to be able to be entered directly on the Radfrac configuration page; how can we specify it, and will that affect the reboiler temperature as well?
To maintain a constant temperature in the reboiler, a temperature controller can be used in Aspen. The specific procedure is to click “Model Library” on the Simulate page and find the “Temperature Control” model. Drag it into the flowchart and connect it to the reboiler. Then double-click on the model to set the target temperature and circuit parameters. In this way, during simulation calculations, the temperature of this reboiler is kept within a preset range and does not change as the system load varies. The reboiler load can be entered directly on the RadFrac configuration page, but it can also be specified by selecting the “Specification” for that device on the Simulate page and setting its inlet or outlet conditions. The specifications for the reboiler load do not directly affect the reboiler temperature, but there is a certain relationship between them. If the reboiler load changes significantly, it may be necessary to adjust the reboiler load accordingly to maintain a stable temperature. .
Also, are reboilers generally selected to be simulated within the Radfrac module? Is it possible to use other modules, such as heaters, instead? The literature mentions the use of backpressure control valves to regulate the reboiler temperature – can this be achieved in simulations? Seeking advice from experts
Under normal circumstances, a reboiler can be simulated in Aspen Plus using the RadFrac module. If you need to model the heating process in the reboiler in more detail, you can also consider using a heater module for simulation. It should be noted, however, that when using a heater module, it is necessary to manually set the parameters of the heater, such as heating power and inlet temperature, which requires more detailed modeling. Regarding the use of a backpressure control valve to regulate the reboiler temperature, this can be achieved in Aspen Plus. On the RadFrac configuration page, the backpressure control valve can be added as an additional device connected to the reboiler. By adjusting the opening degree of the backpressure control valve, the steam pressure in the reboiler can be controlled, thereby indirectly controlling the temperature of the reboiler. Meanwhile, on the Simulate page, by selecting the “Specification” for that backpressure control valve, it is possible to set the inlet or outlet conditions in order to define the pattern of change in the valve opening. It should be noted that controlling the reboiler temperature requires selecting different methods and strategies depending on the specific circumstances. Repeated tuning and optimization may be required to achieve the best control results. .
Hello, you previously suggested that I could add a backpressure control valve to the Radfrac and connect it to the reboiler. However, I couldn’t find the option to do this – could you please take a screenshot for me to see? Thank you
Sure, please follow these steps to add a backpressure control valve to RadFrac: 1. Select the reboiler device in the flow diagram; in the “Property View” window that appears on the right, click the “Configure…” button. 2. In the pop-up RadFrac configuration interface, click the “Add Extra Device…” button. 3. In the pop-up “Extra Equipment” interface, select “Back-Pressure Regulator” under “Valves”. 4. Click the “OK” button to return to the RadFrac configuration interface. 5. In the RadFrac configuration interface, connect the backpressure control valve to the reboiler unit. At the same time, other parameters can be set, such as valve type and control type. I hope this can be helpful to you. .
