As shown in the figure, what is the function of that red N-shaped element? How should this thing be called? If we want to add that height, how do we determine it?

The pipeline you drew (the N section) isn’t connected to any equipment or control valves, etc. Based on my past experience, this was likely designed intentionally; perhaps the vapor from the top of the distillation tower needs to be discharged after passing through a heat exchanger (to prevent uncondensable gases from causing an increase in tower pressure and hindering flow). Basically, that exhaust connection pipeline is used for discharge only during the initial startup of the system; once the system is stable, this process no longer occurs. So, during the initial startup, if there is pressure that cannot be properly discharged or if the flow rate fluctuates greatly, you can try carrying out a discharge to see what happens
Many of these pipelines here serve a liquid-sealing function; if used behind the reactor, they should be able to control the reactor’s liquid level and thus prevent overflow.
