Must all pipes and equipment in explosion-proof areas be statically grounded? Do some ordinary medium pipes also need to be electrostatically grounded? Is static grounding only required for pipelines and equipment that carry flammable liquids?
Yes, all flange connections in explosion-proof areas require static bonding protection, regardless of the type of medium in the pipeline!
All our equipment is bridged and grounded as well
No way, there’s no need for circulating water like that
It is mainly aimed at pipes prone to generating static electricity, to prevent the accumulation of static charge. Therefore, a bypass connection is also required at the flange joint (insulated by gaskets) to effectively dissipate static charges.
As long as it is an explosion-proof area, static grounding is required, and moving equipment must be explosion-proof
All pipes entering the explosion-proof area must be bonded
Are there any regulatory requirements? Why don’t I see any bonding on the flanges of the circulating water and air pipelines in our explosion-proof area?
The lightning protection design specifies that metal pipes are required, even for circulating water.
It is not necessary to follow the lightning protection design in full; please refer to the requirements in the figure below
It’s probably to prevent electric sparks from being generated by lightning induction
