Regarding sectional views

What should be done with the parts of the diagram that are behind in the actual object when it is cut open? Should the obscured areas be shown with dashed lines?
If other views can already clearly show the parts that are obscured in that view, then they need not be drawn (there are standards to that effect; otherwise it will look messy and more complicated), otherwise dashed lines or separate views should be used.
