Regarding explosion-proof design, such as the ExdIICT4 rating, do all relevant electrical instruments need to meet it? Is it only the areas where sparks may be generated that require explosion-proof design, while those where no sparks are produced do not need it?
The basis for determining the explosion protection rating is composed of the explosion protection standards for electrical equipment and the atmospheric conditions in the environment. If a device is not an electrical equipment, or if it belongs to components or devices that are exempt from these standards, then there is no need to apply such explosion protection rating requirements. For example, an iron frame, a pneumatic level measurement device, a bimetallic thermometer, or a regular float flow meter definitely do not require explosion protection. As for situations where sparks are generated, these need to be defined based on the energy level capable of producing such sparks; this falls under the category of intrinsically safe explosion protection. The explosion protection method you mentioned is the flameproofing code, which is different from intrinsically safe explosion protection.
Devices with dragging cables, or those that contain batteries, must meet the requirements if flameproof technology is used.
