Currently, I’m designing a steam generator (shell-and-tube type). No continuous blowdown system has been planned; only periodic blowdown is intended. While calculating the volume of fluid to be discharged during periodic blowdown, I encountered a problem: the steam generator has a diameter of 2.4 meters and a length of 5 meters. Assuming that the liquid level drops by 0.1 meters during each 1-minute blowdown cycle, the discharge rate comes out to 72 m³/h. However, according to the design specifications, the standard size for blowdown outlets is DN50. Isn’t this somewhat unreasonable?
