If the temperature of the circulating refrigerant is lower than the ambient temperature, proper insulation can reduce power consumption during operation and ensure efficient heat exchange. Especially with low-temperature brine at -15 degrees Celsius, in humid summers without insulation protection, not only is there a loss of cooling capacity, but condensation or even freezing can also occur in the pipelines. If proper insulation measures are not taken in such cases, then the person in charge of that section is either stupid or deliberately causing problems. Of course, in the Nanjing area where you are located, you can remove the insulation from the pipeline with a temperature of 7 degrees during winter, if you don’t find it troublesome.
Recirculating water is not needed; cooling is required at 7 degrees and -15 degrees.
I used to manage an ammonia-pressure refrigeration brine system at -7°C; the condenser used was a tube-type heat exchanger, and circulating water with a cooling tower was employed. The heat exchanger shell and the ring water pipe network do not have insulation layers. (The salt water tank and the valves in the low-temperature section all require insulation layers.) The function of the condenser is to cool the high-pressure gas coming out of the compressor, turning it into a liquid. The water temperature is quite close to room temperature, so I think it’s not necessary to use insulation.
There is information available on materials suitable for insulation in cooling systems used in seawater channels; you can search for it on your own. The pipe can be made using pre-made half-polystyrene pieces selected according to the pipe diameter (the pipe is wrapped inside, and aluminum foil is used for the outer covering) ; The valve can be made from an injectable resin that can be foamed (the housing is prefabricated first, followed by the injection of foamed resin).
Materials below the ambient temperature require insulation, and the insulation thickness is determined based on the pipe diameter. Above ambient temperature, insulation is required
From an energy-saving perspective, insulation is necessary.
