The process flow includes: 1) Hydrogen production by water electrolysis: PEM or alkaline electrolyzers are used to split water into H₂ and O using electricity from renewable sources₂ ; 2) CO₂ capture: Capturing CO from industrial exhaust gases or direct air₂ ; 3) Synthesis reaction: H₂ and CO₂ react to produce crude methanol in a methanol synthesis reactor under the action of a copper-based catalyst at 200–300°C and 5–10 MPa ; 4) Refining: Methanol products with a purity of over 99.8% are obtained through distillation separation. This technology enables the recycling of carbon and is an important pathway toward carbon neutrality.
