On March 28, the Green Carbon Resource Utilization Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society (hereinafter referred to as the Green Carbon Committee) was established in Qingdao. It will provide a broader platform for experts and scholars in green carbon-related fields to exchange ideas, strengthen collaboration among industry, academia, research institutions, and practical applications, promote the development of industrial technologies and the transformation of research results, and work together to make greater contributions to improving the academic, technical, and industry standards in the field of green carbon resource utilization in China, as well as to fostering sustainable development. Lü Xuefeng, director of the Qingdao Institute of Energy at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, explained that the establishment of the Green Carbon Special Committee demonstrates clearly the crucial role of efficient utilization of green carbon resources in achieving the \"dual carbon\" goals and promoting the green and low-carbon development of the chemical industry. The committee will establish a collaborative innovation framework that connects basic research, technological development, and industrial applications, aiming to convert sustainable carbon resources such as emitted carbon, biological carbon, and recycled carbon into a wide range of green carbon products including green energy, energy chemicals, material chemicals, and fine chemicals. This approach will facilitate a comprehensive transformation in the chemical industry, covering carbon reduction at the source, during production processes, and at the end-of-life stage. In the future, the Green Carbon Special Committee will focus on the 15th Five-Year Plan and the medium-to-long-term development in the field of green carbon resource utilization. By bringing together various stakeholders, it will conduct strategic research, establish high-level interdisciplinary exchange platforms, foster collaborative innovation among industry, academia, research institutions, and end-users, promote the standardization and certification of green carbon technologies, enhance international influence, and support science popularization and science and technology education.
