Its working principle relies on the fact that the buoyancy of the floating ball is proportional to the density of the liquid being measured. The ball floats on the surface of the liquid, and a transmission mechanism connected to the ball converts its position (the liquid level) into an electrical signal or some other form of reading. However, when measuring the separation of oil and water in such special cases, special attention and design are required, as the different densities of oil and water prevent a single float from accurately determining the boundary between the two liquids. Below are the common methods for measuring the level of a two-layer liquid with oil and water separation using floating balls: 1. Dual-floating-ball method: In this method, two floating balls with different densities are used; one of these balls has a density between that of oil and water, and it will float on the oil-water interface ; Another buoyant object has a density less than that of water, so it will float on the surface of the water. In this way, by measuring the positions of the two floats, the liquid levels of the oil layer and the water layer can be determined separately. 2. Differential pressure float method: This method uses a special differential pressure transmitter; the float is placed at the interface where oil and water separate. Through a certain mechanical mechanism, changes in the position of the float result in pressure changes, which are then converted into a level signal by the differential pressure transmitter. 3. Magnetic flap float method: A magnetic float is placed in a container where oil and water are separated; the density of this float is set to be between that of oil and water, allowing it to float on the interface between the two fluids. The magnet on the float will drive the external magnetic flap indicator through magnetic coupling, thereby indicating the liquid level at the oil-water interface. Of course, the choice of method in specific situations requires comprehensive consideration of factors such as the actual properties of the oil, water content, temperature, pressure, and installation environment. At the same time, to improve the accuracy and reliability of measurements, it may also be necessary to use other types of level measurement devices, such as radar level gauges and ultrasonic level gauges. In practical applications, it is best to consult professional suppliers of level measurement equipment to obtain the most suitable solution. .
