Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) is an instrument design software based on a universal database and rule-driven logic, developed by Hexagon PPM (formerly EagleView). SPI (Smart Plant Instrumentation) is derived from the renowned INTools, offering comprehensive solutions for instrument engineering. SPI can handle tasks such as the creation of instrument index tables, instrument specifications, I/O lists, calculations related to control valves, throttling devices, and thermometer casings, instrument wiring, instrument circuit diagrams, instrument installation diagrams, and material tracking. Thanks to the unified database design, relevant personnel can quickly access and share engineering data, thereby improving the efficiency and accuracy of design work in the instrumentation field. SPI is a powerful instrument design software that covers the entire workflow of instrument design and features a rigorous quality verification system; as a result, it is widely used by engineering companies both domestically and internationally. However, it has been criticized for its complicated user interface and slow operation speed.
As owners place increasing demands on integrated design and digital delivery, large and medium-sized projects both domestically and internationally now often require the use of this software for instrument design, which imposes a considerable burden on designers’ work. Import Utility is a great tool; it enables fast data entry, saves time, and improves work efficiency while ensuring design quality.
II. Solution: The import module provided by SPI is an excellent method for quickly entering data, being both secure and efficient. It is suitable for everyone, including beginners; with a basic understanding of data structures, one can enter data rapidly.

Precautions: 1. Ensure that there are no spaces in all fields (display name) in Excel. 2. Ensure that all data types meet the requirements. 3. Ensure that \"validate\" is removed from the link attribute, and that \"define\" is checked. 4. Ensure that no insertion is made on the first attempt, and check whether the instrument type is new or not. 5. Ensure that the three ‘N’s under loop have been filled in.

The import tool has greatly improved our work efficiency, especially when integrating projects. If there are concerns that the process of releasing SPP&ID data to SPI is cumbersome and inaccurate, it is possible to export the instrument data by using SPP&ID to generate instrument process condition tables. After this data is verified using external tools, it can be imported into SPI via import, thereby achieving data integration.
The import tool can perform import operations through table and module respectively, offering convenience and speed. But be careful: before importing officially, it is essential to conduct tests, as once the data is imported, it cannot be undone.
