In the coke ovens I work on, the pressure sensing tube for the gas collection pipe is installed at the top of the π-shaped tube (the suction elbow). The value of H used in the calculation of the gas collection pipe pressure, as indicated in the diagrams in the manual, represents the distance from the top of the π-shaped tube to the bottom of the carbonization chamber. However, in some coke ovens, the pressure sensing tube for the gas collection pipe is installed next to the π-shaped tube, in the gas collection tank area. Question! 1. Where is the appropriate location to install the pressure tapping pipe for the gas collector? Where is the coke oven you service installed? 2. When installed in the gas collection tank, does the pressure in the gas collection pipe fluctuate when the carbonization chamber at the adjacent pressure sampling point is emptied? 3. When installed at the top of the π-shaped tube, what impact does the ammonia spray at the top of the π-shaped tube have on pressure control?
