How is the gas production volume calculated in Texaco gasification, given the amount of coal slurry and the percentage composition of the gases?
There is a flow meter on the DCS, and it’s sufficient to simply read the value; however, that flow rate refers to the wet gas flow rate. If calculation is necessary, the gas production per m3 of coal slurry can be determined by using element balance as a basis; however, this is only an approximate estimate and the accuracy is not high. For example, assuming a carbon conversion rate of 96%, 55% carbon content in the coal, 20% ash content, 57% CO+CO2 composition in the gas produced, a coal slurry concentration of 60%, and a density of 1200 kg/m3, it can be calculated that 1 m3 of coal slurry yields approximately 1090 Nm3 of gas. You can come and check it. With a coal slurry flow rate of 50 m3/h and a coal feeding rate, the dry gas production is approximately 54,500 Nm3/h. Using a theoretical water vapor ratio of 1.4, the flow rate of wet gas detected by the flow meter at the top of the scrubber is 130,800 Nm3/h. This dry gas volume should correspond to a design capacity of 150,000 tons per year (including a 20% design margin), which is compatible with gasifiers of 65 kilograms capacity having diameters of 2.8m or 3.2m. So this reverse calculation result shouldn’t be too absurd; it can be used as a rough estimate.
