Boiling range of methanol: Based on the different boiling points of methanol and its impurities, fractional distillation is employed; the initial boiling point and dry distillation point are determined at a temperature of 0°C and a pressure of 101325 Pa. The temperature between the initial boiling point and the dry distillation point is the boiling range of the methanol being tested. The higher the purity of methanol, the more stable its boiling point and the shorter its boiling range; this is one aspect used to determine the purity of methanol. Initial boiling point: The temperature measured when the first drop of liquid drops from the end of the condenser during distillation under specified standard conditions. Dry distillation point: The temperature measured at the instant when the last drop of liquid at the bottom of the distillation flask vaporizes, under specified standard conditions during distillation. Range of boiling temperature: the temperature between the initial boiling point and the dry distillation point.
