There are two methods for heating a shift converter: the one-pass method and the cyclic heating method. Our facility uses the one-pass method, in which steam is used to heat nitrogen; this nitrogen then enters the pre-shift converters (two units in parallel) before being combined with those in the main shift converter to raise the temperature. The target temperature is 270–300°C, but the heating process takes a long time. The flow rate of nitrogen is 7,000–9,000 N cubic meters, and after heating, the temperature of the nitrogen reaches 320–350°C at a pressure of 0.2–0.3 MPa. However, during the later stages of heating, the temperature rises very slowly, and it’s not possible to reach the desired heating rate. The catalyst volume used in the pre-shift converters is 10 cubic meters, while that in the main shift converters is 28 cubic meters. Is there any way to speed up the heating process? Also, what is the procedure for the cyclic heating method, and can it result in faster heating?
With the one-pass method, the exhaust temperature of the used nitrogen reaches over 300 degrees, which is a great waste. By adding a high-temperature fan, it can be changed to a circulation method
Add a centrifugal blower, with its outlet connected in front of the pre-transformer and its inlet at the gas-phase outlet of the final ammonia washing tower; it is heated through a heat exchanger, either by electric heating or high-pressure steam. This allows for cyclic heating.
Why is it necessary to raise the temperature to such a high level? A pre-vulcanization furnace with a maximum temperature of 240–250°C would be sufficient; the steam heater mentioned earlier is more than enough for that purpose. Are you using pre-vulcanized catalysts? Is activation needed?
Well, it’s pre-sulfided; it’s okay to raise the pre-transformer temperature to 240-250°C, but this isn’t possible for the main transformer, as they are connected in series. You need to raise the pre-transformer temperature above 280°C in order to maintain the appropriate temperature for the main transformer
