Guoneng Yulin once again uses the methanol synthesis catalyst from Southwest Research Institute

According to a announcement issued by Guoneng e-Zhao in May 2026, the Southwest Research Institute won the bid for the procurement of methanol synthesis catalysts for the Yulin Chemical Plant of the Energy Group in 2025. According to the tender information, the loading and unloading volume of the methanol synthesis tower at Guoneng Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd. is 233 m3, with a planned purchase volume of 240 m3. The loading and unloading volume of the methanol synthesis deep desulfurization tank is 56 m3, and it is planned to purchase 58 m3 of deep desulfurization catalyst. In 2023, the 1.86 million tons per year methanol production plant of Guoneng Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd. used the XNC-98-5 type methanol synthesis catalyst and desulfurization agent developed by Southwest Research Institute for the first time, resulting in an increase in the plant’s operating capacity to 115%. Data from one year of operation of the catalyst show that the average consumption of MTO-grade methanol synthesis gas is 2,063 m3/t, which is 27 m3/t less than that with the foreign catalyst used in the previous unit. Guoneng Yulin uses GE water-coal slurry cooling gasification, Hangyang air separation technology, Qingdao Lianxin shift reaction technology, Ningbo Engineering Company’s acid gas removal technology, and David methanol synthesis technology to produce 1.8 million tons of methanol per year.
