Huamei’s 200,000-ton methanol-to-polypropylene project is advancing rapidly, with a total investment of 2.3 billion yuan already made! Dong Guoliang, deputy director of the preparatory office for Huamei Group’s polypropylene project, told reporters that since the project resumed full operations on March 15 this year, it has been progressing rapidly as planned. Current tasks include the construction of the steel structure for the on-site platform, pipeline pressure testing and welding, cable laying, as well as completing the final rectification work under the “three inspections and four determinations” process. The reporter learned that in 2011, following the completion and operation of the 600,000 tons per year coal-to-methanol project, which was one of the key construction projects in Gansu Province, Huating Coal Industry Group Co., Ltd., taking into account the new trends in the development of the coal chemical industry, the changes in the national methanol market, and the new demands for downstream methanol products, and based on the company’s actual conditions, launched a project to produce 200,000 tons per year of polypropylene from 600,000 tons per year of methanol. This project is China’s first fluidized-bed methanol-to-propylene facility, and it also serves as a key component in the development of a large-scale energy and chemical industry base in eastern Gansu. The total estimated investment for this project is 2.883 billion yuan. It will involve the deep processing of 600,000 tons of methanol produced annually to manufacture polypropylene products with high added value, thereby enabling the transition from coal chemical products to fine chemical products and achieving clean and efficient utilization of coal. Once the project is completed and put into operation, it will consume 600,000 tons of methanol per year, enabling annual production of 160,000 tons of polypropylene, 19,000 tons of liquefied gas, 21,000 tons of propane, 14,000 tons of gasoline, 8,000 tons of fuel gas, and 28,000 tons of methyl tert-butyl ether. “At present, the main unit of the project has been installed, and the final rectification work under the “three inspections and four fixations” procedure for various stages is being carried out as planned. ”Dong Guoliang explained that since the project began, 2.305 billion yuan has been invested in it, accounting for 80% of the total investment of 2.883 billion yuan for the project. At the same time, the safety situation during project construction has remained stable, achieving the goal of no safety accidents since the project began. The contracts for the construction of the new boiler unit, as well as the desulfurization and dust removal systems and the circulating water system, as part of the project’s supporting utilities, have been signed ； The purchase contracts for demineralized water and wastewater treatment process packages as well as specialized equipment have been signed, and detailed design is currently in progress. Commissioning trials are expected to be carried out in June 2020.
