Shanxi Coking Coal Group held an expert consultation meeting on the 600,000 tons per year methanol-to-olefins project and related methanol production facilities. From May 11th to 12th, Shanxi Coking Coal Group organized a consultation meeting on this project in its headquarters building. Members of the leadership team of Shanxi Coking Coal Group and heads of relevant business departments, officials from Shanxi Coking, as well as the leadership team of Shanjiao Feihong Company and relevant technical personnel attended the meeting. The conference invited a total of 11 experts from China’s petrochemical industry, coal chemical industry, and related sectors to participate in the evaluation. The meeting heard a presentation by the project developer on the basic details of the project and the preliminary work carried out, as well as an explanation by the Petroleum and Chemical Industry Planning Institute regarding the contents of the comprehensive evaluation report for the project. The experts present had a thorough discussion on the project’s prospects, economic viability, technical feasibility, as well as the construction plans and approaches. The expert group agreed that the technology employed in this project is mature and reliable, the product has good market prospects and economic benefits, and it possesses a certain level of risk resistance. It meets the requirements of the **Clean Coal Utilization Industry Policy as well as Shanxi Province’s plans for industrial transformation and upgrading. The group also provided scientific and reasonable suggestions and recommendations regarding project construction planning, process technology, safety and environmental protection, investment control, product positioning, and operation management, which served as a valuable guide for future work. Project Overview: On November 22, 2018, the environmental impact assessment report for Shanxi Coking Coal Group Feihong Chemical Co., Ltd.’s comprehensive renovation project aimed at producing methanol from 1 million tons per year of coke oven gas was officially approved by the Linfen Environmental Protection Bureau. This approval marked a crucial step forward in the construction of the project for producing olefins from 600,000 tons per year of methanol, along with related methanol production facilities. The 600,000 tons per year methanol-to-olefins project along with related integrated methanol facilities is a key project for the transformation and development of Shanxi Province. It is the core project of the Hongtong Coal and Coking Circular Economy Park, which is one of the six parks outlined in Shanxi Coking Coal’s \"one strategy, three goals\" framework. It also serves as a key project for the Hongtong Economic and Technological Development Zone. The completion of this project not only extends the coal coking industry chain of Shanxi Coking Coal Group but also fills the gap in the production of polyolefin products in Shanxi Province. It serves as an important model and catalyst for the transformation and development of an economy based on resources, thereby promoting local economic growth. The 1 million tons per year methanol production project using coke oven gas as a feedstock is a preliminary construction project for the 600,000 tons per year methanol-to-olefins plant along with related integrated methanol facilities. The completion of this project will ensure a supply of raw materials for the 600,000 tons per year olefins plant, thereby maximizing economic benefits. In the environmental impact assessment approval, the project received strong support from Shanxi Province, Linfen City, Hongtong County, and Shanxi Coking Coal Group. The project was approved for registration by the Shanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission in September 2015. Upon completion, it will be capable of producing 1 million tons of methanol and 100,000 tons of LNG per year, with 30,000 tons of sulfuric acid and 21,000 tons of sulfur as by-products. To date, all 5 patented technologies have been introduced, and both the overall design and the preliminary design have been completed.
