The environmental protection authorities have officially accepted the application for the Baotou Coal-to-Olefins Upgrade Demonstration Project carried out by Shenhua Baotou Coal Chemicals. It is reported that Shenhua Baotou Coal Chemicals Co., Ltd. intends to build this demonstration project in the Jiuyuan Industrial Park of Baotou City. The project is based on the coal gasification–methanol–methanol-to-olefins process, and its main components consist of 11 production units for coal gasification, purification, sulfur recovery, methanol production, methanol-to-olefins conversion, as well as polyethylene and polypropylene production. The utility systems and auxiliary facilities will be developed either by upgrading existing facilities or through new construction.
