Huaibei Coal Chemical Industry Base Improves the Utilization Rate of Solid Waste Author/Source: Sinochem New Network Date: 11-08-2019 Clicks: 122 Since the beginning of this year, the Huaibei Coal Chemical Industry Base has made efforts to improve the efficiency of utilizing solid waste resources, in order to ensure effective progress in the effort to protect the environment. The base is actively developing Linhuan Zhongli Power Generation Co., Ltd., a key project under the province’s “861” action plan. This facility uses a domestically innovative technology that allows for the simultaneous combustion of three types of fuel: coal gangue, coal slurry, and mixed coal, in 4×300-megawatt units. Each year, at least 3 million tons of coal slurry and coal gangue are utilized in this process, enabling the effective conversion of these solid waste materials into electrical energy and thus reducing the amount of land occupied by such waste materials from the outset. At the same time, it also improves the efficiency of comprehensive utilization of thermal energy, reduces the total amount of pollutants emitted in the region, and generates significant economic and environmental benefits. To promote the transition of solid waste from \"inefficient, low-value, and decentralized utilization\" to \"efficient, high-value, and large-scale utilization,\" the base also formulated the \"Construction Plan for the Comprehensive Utilization Base for Bulk Solid Waste in Huaibei City,\" which was submitted to the **Development and Reform Commission and approved after evaluation. At the same time, the base actively explores new pathways for the development of the solid waste resource industry; by adopting green building technologies to create green factories, it has changed traditional methods of using coal sludge and coal gangue to fill mining subsidence areas and as road base materials. For example, the cement grinding plant built by Huaibei Xianghuai Cement Co., Ltd. carries out comprehensive utilization of the 400,000 tons of fly ash and 400,000 tons of waste slag generated by Linhuan Zhongli Power Generation Co., Ltd.; while producing 2 million tons of cement per year, it also makes use of over 700,000 tons of coal gangue. Key enterprises such as Huaibei Qiangli Gangue Building Materials Comprehensive Utilization Company and Jinhua Chen New Building Materials Company utilize coal gangue to produce energy-efficient porous bricks, hollow bricks, and other building materials that are in demand in society today. More than 900,000 tons of coal gangue are used each year, which equates to a savings of 528,000 cubic meters of clay. It prevents the extensive use of arable land for extracting clay to make bricks, thus protecting the ecological environment and maintaining local ecological security. Moreover, the base is also accelerating the updating and advancement of solid waste treatment technologies. Huaihai Industrial Company has invested 520 million yuan to build 12 production lines for manufacturing materials such as cement admixtures made from coal gangue, permeable bricks, and construction aggregates. One of these production lines has already been successfully tested; once all lines are completed, around 3 million tons of coal gangue can be utilized annually.
