Trial Operation of the Oil Products Facility in Shaanxi Jingyi Chemical’s 500,000-ton Coal Tar Deep Processing Project / Author/Source: Coal Tar Deep Processing and Hydrogenation Technology Collaboration Group / Date: May 24, 2020 / Clicks: 60 On the afternoon of May 21, another important milestone was reached in the trial operation of the oil products facility within Shaanxi Jingyi Chemical’s 500,000-ton coal tar deep processing project; the joint trial operation of the pretreatment unit was successful from the first attempt, paving the way for the subsequent trial operation with actual feedstock. After a series of preliminary adjustments, on May 19th, the pretreatment unit began full-scale joint testing, using water in place of oil. During the commissioning process, the operators focus on checking for leaks in the equipment and pipelines, removing debris such as rust and welding slag from the equipment and process pipelines. At the same time, they examine the quality of installation and the operating performance of pumps, equipment, pipelines, and instruments. After 3 days, the pretreatment unit completed the joint trial run in one go. On May 21, the one-time successful load test of the product hydrogen compressor marked the completion of all equipment inspection tasks for the reforming PSA unit at the oil products center, enabling the entire unit to be ready for operation. To keep up with the schedule, as early as the later stages of the project construction, the PSA unit began to undergo purging and hydrotesting while work was still in progress. Once the construction was completed, the piping purging and hydrotesting tasks were also essentially finished at the same time, thereby saving valuable time for subsequent operations. After completing the remaining construction tasks related to equipment, pipelines, instrumentation, electrical systems, civil works, and steel structures, as well as conducting a thorough inspection of the construction quality, the facility was officially handed over on April 30. The plant staff promptly carried out tasks such as the \"three inspections and four determinations\" as well as airtightness tests, and on May 21, the load test of the product hydrogen compressor was a complete success. Next, the PSA unit will undergo reconfiguration to complete the addition of adsorbents; once this is done, the unit will be ready for operation, with efforts being made to start it up on schedule. Shaanxi Jingyi Chemical’s 500,000 tons per year project for the deep processing and integrated utilization of coal tar involves the use of advanced technologies with independent intellectual property rights, developed specifically for the characteristics of coal tar. The core technology consists of a combination of boiling-bed hydrogenation for quality improvement of coal tar across all fractions, along with fixed-bed hydrocracking; using medium- and low-temperature coal tar as raw material, this process is used to produce high-value aromatic chemical products. The project covers an area of about 1,200 mu, with an estimated investment of around 4.6 billion yuan. Construction of the project officially began in August 2017, and it is now in the final stages of design, civil works and safety preparations, as well as equipment installation. Completion and commissioning are expected by the end of October 2019. The projects mainly include: a 550,000-ton/year coal tar pretreatment unit, a 500,000-ton/year coal tar fluidized-bed hydrocracking unit, a 450,000-ton/year coal tar fixed-bed hydrocracking unit, a 400,000-ton/year naphtha continuous reforming unit, a 170,000-ton/year aromatic extraction unit, a 50,000 cubic meters per hour coal-to-hydrogen unit, a 50,000 cubic meters per hour air separation unit, a 100,000-ton/year methanol synthesis unit, as well as related supporting facilities such as hydrogen purification (PSA) units, sulfur recovery units, phenol-amine recovery units, storage and transportation systems, and other auxiliary and environmental protection systems.
