On January 15th, an expert consultation meeting was held regarding the wastewater treatment, reclaimed water reuse, and concentrated brine treatment technologies for the 400,000-ton/year ethylene glycol production unit as part of Shaanxi Yulin Energy Group’s 1.2 million tons/year coal-based ethylene glycol project. The conference invited several well-known experts from the Environmental Impact Assessment Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, **Energy Group, China Salt Engineering Technology Research Institute, and other relevant representative enterprises. Yao Jikai, the deputy chief engineer of Yulin Energy Group Company, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Representatives from China Tianchen Engineering Co., Ltd., as well as staff from the company’s production and operation department, infrastructure construction department, procurement management department, and other relevant departments also participated in the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Shen Yuncheng, the chief engineer of Yueneng Chemical. At the meeting, the attendees listened to Tianchen Design Institute’s presentation on the design documents as well as the company’s report on technical exchanges and research related to the project. The experts present held thorough discussions and exchanges on aspects such as the construction scale for sewage, reclaimed water, and concentrated brine; material balance; basic process routes; design optimization; system configuration; construction methods; production and operation; environmental protection policies; and investment estimates. They also offered their suggestions and opinions. Yao Jikai demanded that chemical material companies take a higher perspective, consider the requirements of relevant policies as well as the suggestions of the experts present, and revise and improve the technical plans based on the specific conditions of each project, so as to lay a solid foundation for the rapid implementation of these projects. The holding of this demonstration meeting provides a solid basis for advancing the related work under this project. Recently, a joint research team composed of members from the Production and Operations Department, Infrastructure Engineering Department, and Procurement Management Department of Yueneng Group Company, along with relevant technical personnel from Yueneng Chemical, conducted a specialized investigation into coal chemical wastewater, reclaimed water, and zero-discharge systems. This investigation was carried out on the basis of reviewing, evaluating, and studying the treatment technology solutions for wastewater, recycled water, and concentrated brine provided by the design institute. Through on-site visits, inspections, and discussions, the research team conducted in-depth discussions on aspects such as the process routes, construction methods, investment costs, salt separation quality, operation and management, as well as existing problems related to coal chemical industry wastewater, recycled water, and zero-discharge systems. As part of this investigation, visits were made to a number of representative companies, including Shenhua Ordos Coal-to-Oil Co., Ltd., Inner Mongolia Rongxin Chemical Co., Ltd., Inner Mongolia Yitai Chemical Co., Ltd., Shaanxi Future Energy Group Co., Ltd., Inner Mongolia China Coal Yuanxing Energy Chemical Co., Ltd., and Shaanxi Yanchang China Coal Yulin Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. Through this joint research, a large amount of experience and lessons regarding the design, construction, and operation of wastewater, recycled water, and zero-discharge systems in coal chemical industry enterprises were gathered, providing a basis for future work on wastewater, recycled water, and zero-discharge systems for such projects. The first phase of the project to produce 400,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol as part of Shaanxi Yulin Energy Group Co., Ltd.’s 1.2 million tons per year coal-based ethylene glycol production capacity, is a project that marks the commencement of operations at the coal-based clean fuel base and high-end chemical materials base located in the Qingshui Industrial Park of the Yushen Industrial Zone. The total planned land area for this project is 1,711 mu, with an investment amount of nearly 6 billion yuan required; the construction period is expected to be 30 months, and completion and operation are scheduled for June 2022. The project construction includes a gasification unit, a purification unit, an H2/cO separation unit, an ethylene glycol unit, etc. The utility systems and supporting auxiliary facilities include: 3×350t/h high-temperature and high-pressure circulating fluidized bed boilers + 2x30MW back-pressure steam turbine generator sets, air separation units, circulating water stations, desalination stations, storage and transportation facilities, sewage treatment plants, etc. The coal gasification unit employs the Collin powder coal gasification technology and includes 2 powder coal gasifiers; the ethylene glycol unit uses the Zhongke Yuandong ethylene glycol technology
