Accelerated Progress in the Design and Construction of Yushen Nenghua’s 500,000 tons/year Coal-Based Ethanol Project Author/Source: Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd. Date: April 7, 2021 Clicks: 9 Recently, the fourth carbonylation reactor for Yushen Nenghua’s 500,000 tons/year coal-based ethanol project, which was contracted out through EPC by Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd., was successfully installed. This marks the completion of the installation of all the core reactors in the ethanol production facility, 30 days ahead of schedule. This advancement creates favorable conditions for the subsequent installation of the steel structures and related equipment. There are a total of 4 carbonylation reactors, with each unit weighing approximately 436 tons, for a total weight of around 1744 tons. Starting from March 25th, when the first reactor was installed, it took only 9 days for all 4 reactors to be installed in place. Next, the project team will continue to work on installing the two core towers. It is reported that the first section of this tower has reached the final stage of insulation work to equip it with necessary components, and it will be installed in the near future. On April 4th and 5th, the two adsorbers of the molecular sieve purification system for the air separation unit of this project were successfully hoisted into place. Two molecular sieve adsorbers were successively lifted into place. It is reported that these two molecular sieve adsorbers weigh 140.58 tons each, with a diameter of 5.5 meters and a length of 29 meters. This device processes air that has been pre-cooled by an air cooling system, which then enters two molecular sieve adsorbers that are used alternately to remove impurities such as H2O, CO2, and C2H2 from the air. During the lifting process, a 450-ton crawler crane was used as the main lifting equipment. Thanks to the careful preparation and coordinated efforts of all parties involved beforehand, the lifting task was completed successfully. At present, the installation of other equipment at the site is set to begin gradually; the cold box equipment has arrived one after another, and work is underway on the welding and installation of the cold box panels. The 90% model review for the gas separation unit was successfully passed. Recently, the gas separation unit for this project passed the 90% model review successfully. The owner, the project team, and the manufacturers of the complete process package participated in this review. At the review meeting, the owner and the project team first examined the changes made to 60% of the model’s elements, and then conducted a systematic review of the compressor plant, PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption unit), TSA (Temperature Swing Adsorption unit), and membrane separation unit in accordance with the process flow. In-depth discussions were held on topics related to equipment, pipelines, electrical systems, instruments, etc. The owner provided many valuable suggestions from the perspectives of on-site operation and maintenance, which further enhanced the safety, convenience, and efficiency of the installation. Through three days of review and discussion, the design of the device was approved by the owner. The 90% model review approval marks the entry of this device into the final stage of detailed design. The project team will continue to carry out the design work to high standards, ensuring that all deadlines are met and the project objectives are successfully achieved.
