At 24:00 on April 8, good news came from Weihua Binzhou Company’s 300,000-ton/year coal-based ethylene glycol project: the project passed the 72-hour performance test successfully. This assessment starts at 0:00 on April 6 and ends at 24:00 on April 8. During the 72-hour performance evaluation period, the project’s utility systems, gasification, purification, and ethylene glycol production units all operated stably; the equipment functioned properly, and both the consumption metrics and product quality were superior to the design values. A total of 3,124 tons of ethylene glycol were produced during this period, with an average daily production of 1,041 tons, resulting in an average load rate of 104%. On January 4, 2021, the project achieved successful feeding into the No. 1 gasifier for the first time, marking the official entry of the project into the hot commissioning phase. Throughout the thermal commissioning phase, all project members gave up their holiday breaks, worked overtime, and remained on duty 24/7 to promptly resolve various issues. They also continuously optimized the operating conditions of the various units, and finally, on February 9th, it was successful to produce ethylene glycol across the entire process. The successful completion of this 72-hour performance test signifies the successful finish of the project’s hot testing phase. Every milestone in this project was made possible through the efforts and dedication of every employee in the company. With the goal of setting industry benchmarks, they carefully gathered experience, identified problems and challenges, formed task forces to address them, and overcame technical obstacles. They succeeded in solving issues such as instability in the propylene refrigeration system, mismatches in process gas flow rates, and frequent fluctuations in the operating conditions of the CO cryogenic tank. The system was optimized and adjusted to operate at full capacity and stably within the shortest possible time, passing the performance tests on the first attempt. This performance assessment was successfully passed, providing data support for the ‘safe, environmentally friendly, stable, long-term, efficient, and high-quality’ operation of this project. Next, all employees of the company will continue to stay at their posts, further optimize operating parameters to reduce consumption, conduct a thorough review of the processes and equipment in various units, and actively seek new ways to cut costs and increase efficiency, thereby achieving better results for the company’s profitability.
