At 15:42 on August 3, the booster pump of the air separation unit at the Hubei Yunhuaan ammonia synthesis project was successfully started for the first time, marking the successful completion of all load testing procedures for the air compressors in that unit. The booster was successfully started up in less than 12 hours, which is at the leading level in China. The booster pump for the Yunhua An project is a centrifugal multi-axis five-stage compressor manufactured by Shaanxi Gas Turbine. There are few units of this model in use, few successful operation cases, and thus limited operational experience available for reference. Thanks to thorough technical preparation and preliminary planning prior to this startup process, various operational parameters were closely monitored during the acceleration phase. Issues that could have led to shutdowns, such as a large temperature difference between the upper and lower cylinders of the turbine and excessive vibration when the booster crossed its critical point, were resolved promptly. The acceleration curve, speed settings, and interlock values provided by Shaanxi Gas Turbine were decisively optimized, and after 12 hours of continuous operation, the startup was completed successfully. The successful first start-up of the booster pump in the air separation unit of the Yunhua An project has laid a solid foundation for enabling the full operation of the air separation unit and the production of high-quality oxygen and nitrogen, marking a significant advancement toward the project’s overall schedule goals.
